Holistic Nutrition Looks
at the total person, their dietary intake including natural supplements and lifestyle. We believe that food is our most important
medicine and should be addressed first in the healing process to bring the body back to balance. Holistic Nutrition focuses
on consumption of natural wholesome food and the elimination of toxins from our bodies.
Eating optimally requires live,
natural and good quality whole foods that are unprocessed, unrefined and nutrient dense. We all require nutrient rich wholefoods
for health and vitality, keeping in mind that every individual is biocmemically unique, so no one eating plan is suitable
for everyone.
Attaining an optimal diet that is health sustaining is a matter of both education and self-discipline.
It is not an over-night fix nor is it a matter
of finding the right ‘diet’. The diet industry is the one business model that succeeds based on people failing.
Eating holistically is not about dieting. It is not so much the quanity of fat, carbohydrates and protein; but the quality
or source of such elements is of vital importance.
It is a commitment to a lifestyle that means you are making your food choices an important
part of your daily life. Planning meals, shopping for fresh ingredients and cooking are all an integral part of attaining
nutritional health. It also requires changing food habits and sometimes even our relationship with food.
We can help you attain better overall
health and eat better at Pura Vida Digestive Health Centre.
Clients that make appointments to see the Nutritionist leave the Digestive Health
Centre with a new insight into their digestive issues. They typically learn what foods that they may not
be able to tolerate and how to substitute these foods for alternative choices that improve their digestion and allow their
bodies to garner the same nutrients.
A nutritional assessment can require approximately 7-10 hours of research by the Nutritionist
depending on the individual client's issues. The client then receives a customized report on their 2nd appointment
indicating their nutritional status and nutritional deficiencies. Suggested food choices, lifestyle recommendations and
nutritional supplements are also a part of this detailed analysis.
The first appointment with the Nutritionist is approximately 1hour and is an information
gathering exercise. The 2nd appointment is also 1 hour at which time the report is reviewed with the Client.
